OUR HAITI MISSION TRIP THIS YEAR

The Haiti mission team departed for Port au Prince on October 17 carrying some 700 lbs of donated goods including soccer balls, food, hats, baby dolls, fittings for cistern installation, school room aids such as chalk boards, calendars, blocks, puzzles, games and more. The SPC congregation rose to the occasion, donating most of the above items in addition to donating more than $4,000 for the purchase of tanks and pipe for five cisterns. This year’s Haiti team included Mark and Jake Alford, Gordon and William Baker, Kayleen Lawrence, Larry Chottiner and John and Sue Barrie. While in Haiti the team worked in the area served by CODEP (Comprehensive Development Project) located in the mountains southwest of Port au Prince, installing three cisterns. The team stayed at the seaside compound known as L’Acul where there was a beehive of activity involving the fish hatchery (for fish farming in the mountains), painting, and classroom work with the children in the local community. The smiling faces of those children and the Haitian families receiving the cisterns will be long remembered by the team. We all feel blessed to have had the opportunity to serve, and we thank the congregation for their great generosity!
