OUTREACH MINISTRY -
HOMELESS LUNCH PROGRAMS
Friends of the HomelessThe 2nd Thursday of each month, SPC team members travel to 2nd Baptist to serve lunch. The day before, a team leader drops off supplies for a volunteer to cook a meatloaf topped with mashed potatoes. The recipe is supplied so that all casseroles are similar. On Thursday morning, the cooked casserole is dropped off either at the team leaders house or at church. Team members, who volunteered to serve, transport these casseroles, along with peaches, green beans and a tossed salad. Shawnee Hansen, the Friends of the Homeless founder, has juice, coffee, bread and desserts available to round out the meal. The SPC volunteers serve the meal and help clean up afterwards. SPC returns to Salisbury by 2:00. Contact: Sally McGinty
Downtown Lunch Program
The first Monday of the month, four times a year, SPC volunteers meet at SPC around 10:00 am and carpool to Second Presbyterian. Upon arrival, they help set out utensils, a bowl of hot soup, and a sandwich. They bring bread and milk with them. The other food is provided. The Second Presbyterian volunteers prepare the soup and serve the guests milk, iced tea, water, etc. SPC volunteers serve the filled trays to the guests in a cafeteria-style line and offer condiments. After all the guests have been served, the volunteers usually eat a bowl of soup and then help clean up the area where the food was prepared. They put away all leftover food and wipe off the counters. Second Presbyterian takes care of the remainder of the cleanup. SPC returns to Salisbury by 2:00. Contact: Slim Nance
