ABOUT THE SPC COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE
(Subcommittee of the Administration Committee)

During the weeks following our first meeting, January 17, 2005, and with the initial positive response to our appeal for Web Reps from each committee, the main ideas sparked by that first encounter and shared via email have born much fruit. These ideas, which remain open for possible further discussion, fall under the following headings:

1. Determining and clarifying our purpose, functions and means for carrying them out.
   
   
2. Sharing the SPC Web User Guide with Session members in order to encourage greater familiarization with and ownership of our salisburypc.org Website, and followed up by our appeal to Committee Chairs to respond to our Web Rep request.
   
   
3. Inviting existing SPC Web Team members, SPCommunicator editors, and those within our congregation possessing Computer and Multimedia technology expertise to help us setup subcommittees as needed to carry out our proposed functions.

SUMMARY OF IDEAS SHARED AT THAT TIME:

The Purpose of the Communications Committee:

To facilitate more effective communication and witness, both within the "gathered and scattered" SPC congregation, and beyond, via electronic outreach.

The Immediate Tasks of the Communications Committee:

To coordinate automatic sharing with the SPC Webmaster of the SPC information provided by traditional church organization communication methods.

To equip (and upgrade if necessary) an available SPC office computer with Macromedia DreamWeaver web editing and file transfer protocol software so that an alternative web editing equipped computer and ultimately a trained volunteer assistant webmaster may become available as the need arises.

To have input in future SPC Administrative decision making which impacts upon the carrying out of the CC's stated purpose and functions, such as those relating to updates and/or purchase of SPC office computing and multimedia equipment and decisions impacting upon the use of our SPC salisburypc.org website and email domain name.

To facilitate the process of communication through these possible Communications Committee subcommittees:

• Existing SPC Web Team members
• Existing SPCommunicator editors and volunteers
• Our splendid new team Web Rep volunteers already actively reporting directly to the Webmaster and also including those willing to be trained to perform some of the actual web updates.
