The Reverend Larry Duncan,
Our Interim Pastor,
as of January 6, 2005

The Interim Pastoral Nominating Committee is pleased to announce
that the Reverend Larry Duncan will begin his service to our church as Interim
Pastor beginning January 6, 2005.
Larry comes to us from Steele Creek Presbyterian Church in
Charlotte, North Carolina, where he was Senior Pastor of the 800 member
congregation.
A native of Landis, North Carolina, Larry earned his Bachelor of
Arts degree in Religion at Davidson College in 1973 and his Master of Divinity
at Union Theological Seminary in 1977. He began his first pastorate at Trinity
Presbyterian Church, a 100-member church in Jonesville, Louisiana where he
served for more than three years. In 1980, Larry moved to Shreveport, Louisiana
to serve as Associate Pastor at First Presbyterian Church. At this 2000-member
church, Larry worked for more than four years with John Rogers, the Senior
Pastor at the time. Other pastorates include Greenwood, South Carolina;
Lancaster, South Carolina; Summerville, South Carolina, and most recently (as
indicated above) Steele Creek Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Larry's favorite activities in the ministry are preaching,
teaching and visiting. On the Steel Creek Presbyterian
Church website, he describes himself as "a high energy,
enthusiastic workaholic" who recognizes that the Church is a voluntary
organization comprised of individuals who need to know their efforts are
appreciated.
Larry's Presbytery responsibilities have included serving as
Chair of the Committee on Ministry of the Providence Presbytery and as Chair of
the Board of Directors of Presbyterian Career and Counseling Center. He has
also served as Moderator of the Charleston Atlantic Presbytery, and as a member
of various other committees in the Providence and Charleston Atlantic Presbyteries
including the Committee on Preparation for the Ministry, the Examinations
Committee and the Lay Pastor Standards Committee.
In addition he has also been heavily involved in community
activities, including serving as President of the Dorchester Habitat for
Humanity, serving on the Arkansas College Board of visitors, and the Career and
Personal Counseling Center Board of South Carolina. He was appointed to the
Dorchester/ Charleston Board of Mental Health by the legislative commission.
Larry is married to Licia Flores Duncan, who is Librarian for
Academic Computing Support for Union/ PSCE. The Duncans have two daughters.
Kiersty Hyder lives in Germany with her husband, Chad, A Captain in the U. S.
Army, and their two sons, five year old Gavin and 15 month old Greyson (whom
Larry will baptize in Germany on January 2.) Kassey Brasier lives in Sherman,
Texas, with her husband, Todd.
In his free time, Larry enjoys playing with his grandchildren,
golfing, cooking, gardening and traveling.
Larry will be working with SPC over the next year not only as
our head pastor, but also helping us to call a permanent pastor. As interim
pastor he will fulfill a specific ministry ---helping us, before a new
permanent minister arrives, to recognize and deal with the changes that have
taken place over the past few months and years. He will aid us in determining
our new SPC direction, and how to plan and fulfill our mission.
Larry will also help us with administrative issues such as
staffing, finances, and building repairs. This will lay the groundwork for an
installed minister to be called to as problem-free a church as possible. This
is the task of the interim minister.
We expect that Larry will be with us at least a year, probably
longer. If his term exceeds a year, his contract is renewable by the month or
quarter.
We hope that you will welcome Larry and his wife, Licia, with
open arms, and that you will give them all the support you can as they answer
this important call
Yours in Christ,
The SPC Interim Pastoral Search Committee
